It’s Wii Tournament Time

Allison has no shame (i.e. I finally wore a hydration belt)

April 27, 2008

I no longer have any shame.  I wore what amounts to the runners version of the fanny pack, a hydration belt, on my 10 mile run today.  While it was incredibly useful and easy it is still basically a fanny back.  My sister will now disown me.

Mmmm…Mac & Cheese

April 16, 2008

I only have to run 25 miles every week to eat pizza, donuts and mac & cheese everyday without gaining any weight.

Allison: Running ridiculous amounts of miles on a ridiculously regular basis

April 16, 2008

My right knee hurts.  I cannot wear one of my favorite pairs of boots anymore because the heels are too high and there isn’t enough support so my knee hurts even more when I wear them.  Because I can’t wear my boots I can’t wear one of my favorite pairs of pants because the boots were the only shoes tall enough to keep them out of the mud.  Yesterday in the cafeteria Ram told me that I looked short because I was forced to wear flats.  This is sacrifice people.

I run so much now I can’t believe it.  I ran 8 miles on Sunday and then another 5 yesterday.  5 miles is now my ‘takin’ it easy’ distance.  That’s just silly.

Allison’s Foe of the week: Tree Pollen

March 13, 2008

Stupid trees.  Why does Seattle have so many trees?  Why can’t I live in a nice concrete jungle like Dallas?  Oh yeah, question answers itself.

This week the Universe has sent me tree allergies to try and derail my half marathon training.  Well, I won’t be so easily denied Universe.  Ha!  Last Sunday I did my first 5 mile run in about 2 years.  It doesn’t really matter that I spent the rest of the weekend fatigued on the couch, I followed the training plan.  In lieu of doing actual activity after running my 5 miles I rented two movies about running to help keep me motivated.  I had never seen Chariots of Fire (although I have always admired the theme song) and Prefontaine (I have always admired Jared Leto) so I decided a proper Sunday afternoon would include watching those.  I started with Chariots of Fire because it won multiple Oscars, one for best picture even.  I don’t think it is one of those movies that translates well over time.  From what I could tell, the basic premise was 4 almost indistinguishable white dudes from Brittan train for the 1920 Olympics.  Their major foes are some badass (and you can tell they are badass by the awesome team training sequence) Americans, one of which is the fastest man in the world.  The best parts of the movie were the aforementioned training sequence and the very first scene where all the Brits run on the beach to the theme song.  I kept watching the movie, even though I couldn’t really follow the action because everyone looked the same, waiting for the dramatic race scene where we watch someone win a race in slow motion with the theme song pumping in the background, but it never happened.  Very disappointing.  Prefontaine was a lot easier to follow.  Only one runner to keep track of.

The Universe is poking Allison in the eye

March 4, 2008

I’m not quite sure what I did because by my recollection all I have done for the last two weeks is run many, many miles to raise money for charity.  I guess the Universe doesn’t like this role reversal.  I’ve probably thrown it out of whack.  I bet the Universe is expecting me to go shopping and get my nails done and to stop this whole wacky doing-things-for-other-people crap I have been up to lately.  Anyway, why might you ask do I think the Universe is upset with me?  Because I got dumped for a girl that plays Dungeons and Dragons.  Yup, D&D.  I thought about not putting such an embarrassing statement in my public blog that I’ve invited all of my friends, family and co-workers to read, but I’ve probably already told everyone this.  Honestly, how do you keep getting passed over for someone who plays fantasy roll playing games a secret?  Obviously not by writing a blog about it.  To further compound the eye poking, someone saw fit to open a Top Pot donuts location about half a mile from my house.  That’s just cruel.

 Leave me alone Universe!

Below 20 degrees, then Washingtonians won’t run!

Allison enjoys a beer with her cousin Pat in Kansas when it was 6 degrees outside.  Neither drinking beer nor being somewhere that is 6 degrees are conducive for marathon training.  Such activities may need to stop.
